This course is authorized by The Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor Category 1 activities by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists: by the state Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a sponsor of Continuing Education and is authorized to sponsor Category 1 activities by the Maryland Board of Social work Examiners. This training quality qualifies for 6 Category 1 Continuing Education Units.

This course provides evidence-based and practical methods to improve emotional intelligence, facilitate well being and improve stress responses in the healthcare professional's settings. There are many challenging situations in dealing with patients that confront the healthcare professionals on a regular basis. This course includes one to identify and to demonstrate the idea of self-regulation. The ability to control one's internal stress response as well as control one's emotional response. This is basically reflected as resilience to stress and equanimity in the face of emotions and that leads to a psychological self- efficiency. This education provides the clinician/patient relation to be in concordance within the psychology theories. 

Many healthcare systems around the world are emphasizing a need for more patient-centered care.​ 

 There are many psychological approaches which might be taken including the idea of multiple intelligences which address areas beyond standard IQ and the study of attitudes and beliefs. Emotional Intelligence is one such personal characteristic and is increasingly referred to as having a potential role in medicine, nursing and other healthcare professions.

It is suggested that EI is important for effective practice, particularly with respect to delivering patient-centered care.

Outside of healthcare, EI has been widely cited as an attribute which can improve the quality of work and increase productivity and personal and organizational success.

Emotional Intelligence may provide interesting insight into a variety of variables, including job performance and psychosocial outcomes, both of which may impact on patients in the case of healthcare. 

Most complaints about doctors are related to poor communication, not clinical competence.  Improving communication in healthcare is a current area of interest in policy and practice.  The emphasis on insights into one's own and others' emotions that are described in EI,  might be offered as an explanation for why some practitioners appear to be better at delivering patient-centered care than others.

ASSESSING AND DISCRIMINATING PATIENTS

Emotional reactions to prescribed treatments or lifestyle advice may help in understanding why some treatments are more or less acceptable to some patients.

The ability to manage and read emotions would seem to be an important skill for any health professional and might potentially enhance patient-centered care, improve the quality of the care and perhaps even concordance.

Stress is your inability to manage your own body, your mind, your emotions and your life energies.

If you don't know how to manage your mind, body and emotions you will be stressed.

There are a whole lot of challenges and friction when you walk through this world.  Once the friction happens within your body then you become completely debilitated, which is something most human beings are experiencing today.  This is like "you" trying to run the car without the oil in it.

Everything is stressful, everything makes ugly noises within.

  If peace is to happen human beings need to know it within themselves.
